Not your traditional (creative) agency

I’ve always said this every time there are people that wanted to know us or even joined us.

Dari luar memang kerja dengan INVOKE (Creative, since dari blog aku) nampak macam “gah” atau “fancy” but the reality is, it is not. But, not in a bad way-lah. Sort of in a good way but sometimes it can be bad too. Well, depends dekat oranglah kot. Sebab tu macam aku mention dekat first line dan dekat title post kali ni.

WE ARE NOT A TRADITIONAL CREATIVE AGENCY.

Apa maksud aku dengan tradisional? Here’s my personal interpretation of a traditional creative agency: a place where people do creative stuff (design, photo, video etc.) in the most traditional way you can ever imagine. Gila tak membantu deskripsi aku ni. Macam nilah. Dunia creative atau dunia design comes in certain expectations. Other people (clients) expectations dah satu hal, our own designer expectation apatah lagi. To designer, design work is somewhat “noble” or “holy” work. Dia macam, ada sesetengah benda tu memang kau tak boleh sentuh or tak boleh tukar, dan ini bukan kritikan kerja kau oleh klien sahaja. Kerja design ni kononnya ada a certain system atau proses atau flow (hierarchy almost) yang wajib kena ikut. Kononnyalah.

Lebih kurang seribu tahun lalu (2 tahun lebih kurang), aku antara orang yang agak “clash” dengan cara non-traditional creative ways. For a time there I thought, this is not right. We shouldn’t be doing this, it’s bad for the industry (creative/design industry) and bla bla bla and what not. After a certain period of clashes and a bad decision ALMOST taken, there I was thinking again: maybe because it’s the traditional ways that I’ve been doing things that things (changes) almost never happened?

So again, we are not a traditional creative agency.

Because INVOKE swims again the tide (like salmon).

Because we do things that some (if not most) people won’t.

Creative dekat INVOKE saudara-saudari, pegang 20 klien seorang. Sekarang ada 8 orang designer (tak campur aku). Dalam seminggu, setiap satu klien Creative perlu keluarkan average 4 poster. Itu sudah jadi 80 poster seminggu, 16 poster sehari. Belum campur lagi kalau klien tu perlukan photoshoot untuk produk atau servis yang mereka tawarkan. Shoot dalam studio, oklah. Kadang-kadang ada juga perlu shoot keluar, contohnya kalau klien tu restoran atau syarikat developer yang buat rumah contohnya. Takkan dia nak bawa rumah dia masuk studio zuhud kitorang dekat Sungai Besi tu. Oh, tak masuk lagi kalau klien tu ambil sekali pakej nak ada video, bertambah serabut workload. Kalau orang lain biasa ambil masa buat video paling cepat pun dalam angka minggu, kitorang buat dalam 2-3 hari. Dari pre-prod, prod sampaila ke post-prod.

Ini yang segmen servis yang INVOKE offer untuk retail klien.

Tak kira servis lain yang INVOKE offer dekat non-retail klien: organizations and even governments. Walaupun segmen servis ni tak fully involved Creative, tapi adalah sikit bau bacangnya kena juga. Contohnya, lepas dah buat survey kena prepare report untuk present dekat klien. Takkan nak bagi report yang rupanya macam kau submit paper dekat lecturer zaman universiti sahaja? Of courselah kena nampak profesional dan presentable.

Lepas tu INVOKE ada produce our own product macam ADNEXIO dan ACIES (yang dah ada dalam market), DECORIS (yang internal atau klien INVOKE sahaja tahu buat masa ni) dan terbaru baru launching petang 15/10/2020 tadi, MENIAGA. Semua ni, tak outsource mana-mana ya. Memang 100% hasil kerja staf-staf INVOKE. Creative dengan UI/UX dan segala promotional campaign collaterals dan department lain macam System (development) atau Growth Hack (growing the platform) atau DM (digital marketing) atau Commercial (jual dekat klien).

At this point, you might be thinking that hey this is actually traditional agency enough. Yeah, in terms of the full-fledged capacity of the staff and departments, sure we are traditional enough. INVOKE is not a 5-team-member startup, sure. But in other areas, we are not traditional.

Kita patut pergi balik dekat Creative.

We do not have the traditional creative agency resources.

Our main biggest resources are the talents (people) here.

Ini bukan tempat yang mana kau ada idea gila, OK jom buat, let’s buy that equipment.

Ini bukan tempat yang mana kau ada berbulan-bulan masa untuk come out with a proposal, stroyboard, ideas.

Tapi ini definitely tempat yang mana kau ada suara untuk bagi pendapat, buat apa sahaja, try and error. Make mistakes and learn from them. But most importantly, this is the place where you get things done. Talk about it today, started it tomorrow, and complete it on the next day. That’s what INVOKE, Creative specifically, is all about. Hidup zaman 2020 ni, dah tak ada masa untuk kau kata idea yang kau ada tu kena simpan dulu sebab tak cukup resources. It doesn’t work like that anymore. Unless benda yang kau nak buat tu macam James Cameron yang teknologi tu memang tak wujud atau tak matured lagi, lain cerita.

Our new platform, Meniaga was launched today.

Idea Meniaga ni dah wujud dalam waktu yang lebih kurang sama dengan idea ADNEXIO dan ACIES mula. Cuma lepas lebih kurang 6 bulan ke setahun dikerjakan, we kind of shelve it sebab waktu tu the idea for another marketplace doesn’t seem to work. Then COVID-19 came and MCO started in March 2020. We were working on a project for a client and at the same time, Meniaga resurface with a better and refined idea.

So the UI/UX works were done within a week.

Meniaga new logo came in less than one hour. Meniaga was meant for the common people, the small and micro-businesses. The most common meniaga-thing was the like of pasar malam, bazaar ramadan, mamak place, kedai-kedai nasi lauk, nasi campur and of course the one thing that makes them common was makan bungkus. And one thing that includes in a bungkus is plastic bags. And the M icon in the logo Meniaga resembles the two “earholes” in a plastic holder.

Sophisticated-simplicity is what I call it. And we work in a very fast-paced environment. If you are a typically slow learner, you need to learn how to catch up fast. It’s either you run to catch that bus to go to your destination or missed it and someone else arrived there first.
